Water Supply in Moulay Abdel Salam (Larache) Restored After Sabotage
Water Supply in Moulay Abdel Salam Secure, Says Utility Amidst Sabotage Concerns
Rabat, Morocco – The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) has issued a statement reassuring residents of Moulay Abdel Salam, a town in the Larache province of Morocco, that their water supply is secure and functioning normally. This comes in response to recent online articles alleging water shortages in the area.
The ONEE’s Northern Regional Directorate clarified that Moulay Abdel Salam receives its water supply from the Al Hachef treatment plant in Tangier, transported through a complex network of 120 kilometers of pipelines and 11 pumping stations. This system delivers approximately 950 cubic meters of water daily, serving the town’s 400 customers. The ONEE emphasized that this volume is more than sufficient to meet the current water needs of the community.
Addressing the recent disruptions in the water supply, which sparked the online articles, the ONEE revealed that a six-day investigation by their technical teams uncovered acts of sabotage. The investigation, hampered by the extensive pipeline network and challenging terrain, revealed that several valves had been deliberately closed, likely for illegal water usage.
These deliberate acts, the ONEE stated, not only impacted Moulay Abdel Salam but also disrupted the water supply to other communities reliant on the same network. Thankfully, the maintenance teams were able to repair the damage and gradually restore water service to Moulay Abdel Salam, beginning on the night of Thursday, August 1st, 2024.
The ONEE condemned these irresponsible actions, highlighting their negative impact on the quality of service they strive to provide. Despite the challenges posed by such incidents, the utility reaffirmed its commitment to meeting the water needs of the population.
The ONEE urged its customers to report any leaks, disruptions, or suspicious activity related to the water network to the relevant authorities. They also emphasized the importance of responsible water consumption to ensure a sustainable supply for all.
The utility concluded its statement by assuring the residents of the Larache province that their teams are working diligently to guarantee a reliable and high-quality water supply under all circumstances.
