A Shadow of Corruption: Allegations Engulf Moroccan Resistance Veterans’ Organization
Accusations of mismanagement and a culture of silence cast a dark cloud over the High Commission for Veterans of the Resistance and Members of the Liberation Army.
The Moroccan High Commission for Veterans of the Resistance and Members of the Liberation Army, a body tasked with honoring and supporting those who fought for the nation’s independence, finds itself at the center of a storm of controversy. The National Union of Employees of the High Commission, affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union, has publicly denounced what it calls ”failed management policies” and a blatant disregard for the legitimate demands of its employees.
In a scathing open letter addressed to the High Commissioner, the union paints a bleak picture of the organization’s internal affairs. The letter, obtained by Belpresse, accuses high-ranking officials of engaging in a deliberate cover-up of corruption, effectively silencing any dissenting voices within the organization.
This is not the first time a government body in Morocco has faced such serious allegations. Transparency International’s 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index ranked Morocco 72nd out of 180 countries, highlighting the persistent challenges the nation faces in combating corruption. The current situation at the High Commission underscores the urgent need for greater transparency and accountability within government institutions.
The union’s outcry raises serious questions about the treatment of Morocco’s veterans and the management of resources intended for their well-being. The allegations, if proven true, represent a deep betrayal of the sacrifices made by these individuals during the struggle for independence.
The High Commission has yet to issue a formal response to the allegations. However, the gravity of the accusations demands a swift and thorough investigation. The Moroccan people, and especially those who dedicated their lives to the nation’s freedom, deserve nothing less than full transparency and accountability.
