Kenitra Governor Leads National Diaspora Day Celebrations
Bridging the Gap: Kenitra Celebrates National Diaspora Day with a Call for Investment
Kenitra, Morocco – This past Saturday, August 10th, marked Morocco’s annual National Diaspora Day, a day dedicated to recognizing the significant contributions of Moroccans living abroad. Fؤad Mohammadi, Governor of the Kenitra province, spearheaded the local celebration, welcoming dignitaries, elected officials, and members of the Moroccan diaspora to the provincial headquarters.
The event, themed “Investments of Moroccans Living Abroad: Opportunities and Horizons,” underscored the nation’s strategic focus on engaging its diaspora in its development journey. This focus aligns with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who has consistently emphasized the importance of supporting Moroccan citizens residing abroad and fostering strong ties between them and their homeland.
In his address, Governor Mohammadi urged members of the diaspora to consider investing in Kenitra, highlighting the region’s untapped potential and the significant opportunities presented by its burgeoning industrial zone. To facilitate this engagement, a dedicated regional unit has been established within the Governorate, alongside local units across various administrative levels. These units serve as vital points of contact for the diaspora, addressing their inquiries, providing guidance on administrative procedures, and ensuring their needs are met efficiently and effectively.
This emphasis on diaspora investment reflects a growing global trend. According to the World Bank, in 2022 alone, remittances from migrants globally reached a record $647 billion, highlighting the immense economic power of diasporas worldwide. Morocco, in particular, benefits greatly from these contributions, with remittances accounting for a significant portion of its GDP. By actively encouraging investment from its diaspora, Morocco aims to leverage this economic potential to fuel sustainable and inclusive growth across all its regions.
The celebration in Kenitra served as a powerful reminder of the importance of collaboration and partnership between Morocco and its diaspora. By creating an enabling environment for investment and fostering open dialogue, Morocco is paving the way for a brighter future, one where all its citizens, regardless of where they reside, can contribute to the nation’s continued progress.
