Asfi Mayor Suspended, Faces Dismissal Over Alleged Misconduct
The mayor of Asfi, Morocco, has been suspended from office and faces potential dismissal following allegations of administrative and financial misconduct.
Nourdine Kamouch received official notification from the regional governor on Friday, October 12, 2024, informing him of his suspension as both a member and president of the Asfi council. The decision comes after an investigation by the General Inspectorate of Territorial Administration (IGAT) uncovered several irregularities in the city’s management.
The IGAT’s report, submitted to the Asfi prefecture, detailed various administrative and financial discrepancies. In accordance with Article 64 of the Organic Law on Territorial Communities, Kamouch was asked to provide written explanations for these findings. However, the Ministry of Interior deemed his response unsatisfactory, leading to his suspension and the case’s referral to the Administrative Court of Marrakech.
Kamouch’s leadership had already come under fire, with accusations of autocratic management and a political deadlock that paralyzed the council for over two years. This ultimately led to his coalition partners withdrawing their support.
This case highlights the Moroccan government’s commitment to accountability and transparency within local administrations. The outcome of the Administrative Court’s review will determine Kamouch’s future as Asfi’s mayor.
