43 Monkeypox Cases Recover in Ivory Coast

Mpox⁣ Cases Decline in Côte d’Ivoire, Signaling Control Over Outbreak

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – In a hopeful turn of events, Côte‌ d’Ivoire is witnessing a significant decline in mpox ‍cases, indicating successful containment of the‍ outbreak. The country’s Surveillance Committee recently announced that out of 49 confirmed cases, ‍43⁤ have made full recoveries.

Five individuals remain under medical care,⁢ with ‍their conditions reported as stable. Sadly,‌ one fatality was recorded, involving a patient facing serious⁣ pre-existing‌ health complications.

Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Pierre N’Gou Dimba, expressed relief at the absence of critical⁢ cases⁢ requiring ⁣hospitalization. He highlighted that the five individuals currently undergoing treatment are spread across ⁢four health regions: two⁢ in M’Bahiakro, and one each in Yopougon, Méagui, and ‌Zouan-Hounien.

The ‍Surveillance Committee emphasized the encouraging downward trend in mpox infections, underscoring that the outbreak is now under control. However,‌ they noted the Dianra health region as ⁤an exception, with 11 confirmed cases ⁢requiring continued attention.

This ⁣positive⁢ development in Côte d’Ivoire mirrors the global trend⁤ of declining mpox cases. According to the World Health⁣ Organization (WHO), ⁣new mpox cases have decreased significantly worldwide ⁣since⁢ the peak of the outbreak in mid-2022. This decline is attributed to a ⁢combination of factors, including increased awareness, behavioral changes, and the ‌rollout of vaccines‍ in ⁤some countries.

While the overall picture is encouraging, health⁢ authorities remain vigilant. Continued efforts to track the virus, promote ⁢preventive measures, and ensure equitable ⁣access ‍to vaccines,‌ particularly in areas ⁤with higher ‍case numbers, are crucial to achieving complete eradication.
