43 Monkeypox Cases Recover in Ivory Coast
Mpox Cases Decline in Côte d’Ivoire, Signaling Control Over Outbreak
Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – In a hopeful turn of events, Côte d’Ivoire is witnessing a significant decline in mpox cases, indicating successful containment of the outbreak. The country’s Surveillance Committee recently announced that out of 49 confirmed cases, 43 have made full recoveries.
Five individuals remain under medical care, with their conditions reported as stable. Sadly, one fatality was recorded, involving a patient facing serious pre-existing health complications.
Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Pierre N’Gou Dimba, expressed relief at the absence of critical cases requiring hospitalization. He highlighted that the five individuals currently undergoing treatment are spread across four health regions: two in M’Bahiakro, and one each in Yopougon, Méagui, and Zouan-Hounien.
The Surveillance Committee emphasized the encouraging downward trend in mpox infections, underscoring that the outbreak is now under control. However, they noted the Dianra health region as an exception, with 11 confirmed cases requiring continued attention.
This positive development in Côte d’Ivoire mirrors the global trend of declining mpox cases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), new mpox cases have decreased significantly worldwide since the peak of the outbreak in mid-2022. This decline is attributed to a combination of factors, including increased awareness, behavioral changes, and the rollout of vaccines in some countries.
While the overall picture is encouraging, health authorities remain vigilant. Continued efforts to track the virus, promote preventive measures, and ensure equitable access to vaccines, particularly in areas with higher case numbers, are crucial to achieving complete eradication.
