Morocco Weather: Heatwave South, Fog North – Monday’s Forecast
A Tale of Two Climates: Morocco Braces for Hot South and Foggy North
Get ready for a Monday of contrasting weather across Morocco! The south is gearing up for a surge of heat, while the north will be shrouded in a veil of fog.
The Directorate General of Meteorology predicts relatively high temperatures for the southern regions, particularly those bordering the Sahara Desert. This is not unusual for this time of year, as the Sahara’s influence extends northward. Residents and visitors in these areas are advised to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours.
Meanwhile, the northern regions will experience a completely different weather story. Low-lying clouds and patches of fog are expected to develop along the eastern Mediterranean coast, the Atlantic plains, and the northwestern Sahara regions. This atmospheric phenomenon is caused by the interaction of warm, moist air from the sea meeting the cooler landmass.
Adding to the mix, scattered sand particles will be carried by the wind, particularly in the southern regions. This is a common occurrence in Morocco, as the country is located on the edge of the Sahara Desert, the largest hot desert in the world.
Strong winds are also on the forecast for Tangier and Taza, so hold onto your hats! These winds, known locally as the “Chergui,” are hot, dry winds that originate in the Sahara Desert and can significantly impact temperatures and air quality.
This stark contrast in weather patterns highlights the diverse microclimates present within Morocco. From the snow-capped Atlas Mountains to the arid Sahara Desert, the country offers a unique tapestry of weather experiences.
