The Democratic Association of Moroccan Women (ADFM) has voiced strong criticism of the proposed national budget, arguing that it fails to prioritize women’s rights and gender equality. The ADFM contends that the budget, as it stands, represents a missed opportunity to address critical issues impacting women’s economic empowerment, social well-being, and overall equality within Moroccan society.

According to the UN Women’s report “Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2023,” significant gender gaps persist across various sectors, including economic participation and opportunity, political empowerment, and access to education and healthcare. In many countries, budget allocations often fail to adequately address these disparities, perpetuating systemic inequalities.
The ADFM’s critique highlights the need for a more inclusive and equitable budget that actively promotes gender equality. They argue that investing in women is not just a matter of social justice, but also a crucial strategy for economic growth and sustainable development. Research by the McKinsey Global Institute, for example, has shown that advancing women’s equality could add $12 trillion to global GDP by 2025.
