National Festival of Moroccans of the World in Larache: Fostering Development and Collaboration
Moroccan Diaspora Takes Center Stage at Larache Festival, Promoting African Development
Larache, Morocco – The city of Larache recently hosted the fifth edition of the National Festival of Moroccans of the World, a vibrant celebration of the Moroccan diaspora and its contributions to the nation and the African continent. Held under the theme “Moroccans of the World… and the Development of Africa… Diversity and Development,” the festival took place from August 8th to 10th, 2024, coinciding with the Throne Day and National Day of the Emigrant.
Organized by the Al Yusr Association for Sustainable Development, the festival enjoyed strong support from local and regional authorities, including the Larache Prefecture, the Municipal Council, the Regional Council of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, and the Hassan II Foundation for Moroccans Residing Abroad.
The festival’s opening ceremony was a testament to its significance, graced by the presence of high-ranking officials, diplomats, and representatives from various sectors. The Secretary General of the Prefecture, representing the Governor of the Larache province, presided over the ceremony, joined by representatives of security and military authorities, as well as ambassadors and diplomats from friendly nations such as China, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Senegal.
Mr. Moumen Sabihi, President of the Municipal Council of Larache and Honorary President of this year’s festival, delivered a warm welcome address, highlighting the festival’s core objective: to strengthen South-South and North-South cooperation. He emphasized the importance of cultural, economic, and scientific exchange, echoing the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who has called for dedicated mechanisms to support the talents and initiatives of Moroccans abroad. This vision, Mr. Sabihi noted, aims to connect with the diaspora, keep them informed about Morocco’s development and investment opportunities, and encourage their active participation in the nation’s progress.
The National Festival of Moroccans of the World serves as a powerful platform to celebrate the achievements of the diaspora, foster dialogue, and explore avenues for collaboration towards a shared future of growth and prosperity for Morocco and Africa.
