Morocco Achieves Record-Breaking Blueberry Exports

Morocco’s Blue Gold Rush: A ‍Deep Dive into Record-Breaking Blueberry Exports

Morocco is experiencing a blueberry boom, shattering export records and solidifying its position as a major player in the global fruit market. The North African nation exported a ‍record-breaking 67,300 tons of fresh blueberries during the 2023/24 season (June to July), a staggering 25% increase from the previous year and nearly four times the volume exported in 2017/18, according to agricultural market specialist EastFruit.

This surge in blueberry production speaks to Morocco’s strategic investments in its agricultural sector. The country’s diverse climate, fertile land, and access to water resources have created ideal conditions for blueberry cultivation. Furthermore, government‌ initiatives promoting modern farming techniques and export infrastructure have played a crucial role in this success story.

This expansion into ‍new markets highlights Morocco’s proactive approach to⁤ securing its position in the global blueberry trade.

North America‌ has also emerged as a promising destination for Moroccan blueberries. ‌Exports ‍to the US reached 360 tons, while Canada received 900 tons. Furthermore, Southeast Asia, particularly Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia, remains a vital market, with Morocco now ranking among the top five blueberry suppliers in the region.
