High Temperatures and Thunderstorms Expected Across Morocco
Morocco Braces for Scorching Temperatures and Scattered Thunderstorms
Get ready for a mix of sun and storms, Morocco! The country is set to experience a wave of high temperatures, with some regions anticipating scattered thunderstorms and strong winds.
The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN) has issued a forecast predicting hot weather across various parts of the country. The plains west of the Atlas Mountains, Saiss, southern Rif, eastern region, Souss, southeastern Morocco, and inland Saharan regions can expect scorching temperatures throughout Sunday, particularly during the night and morning hours.
The intensity of the heat will vary, with some areas experiencing particularly high temperatures. The plains west of the Atlas Mountains, Saiss, inland Saharan regions, Souss, and southeastern Morocco are expected to be exceptionally hot.
However, the heat won’t be the only weather phenomenon gracing Morocco’s skies. Unstable weather patterns are predicted to develop, bringing with them a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. These are most likely to occur in the High and Middle Atlas Mountains, the eastern region, and the eastern Rif. Meanwhile, the central, southeastern, and southern regions can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies.
Adding to the mix, strong winds are expected to sweep through the eastern, southeastern, and southern regions, potentially kicking up dust and reducing visibility.
Here’s a closer look at the expected temperature range:
Low Temperatures: 25-30°C (77-86°F) in the eastern region, Saiss, plains west of the Atlas Mountains, southeastern Morocco, Souss, and eastern Saharan regions. 15-20°C (59-68°F) in the High and Middle Atlas Mountains, northern and central plains, and southern regions. 18-24°C (64-75°F) in the remaining parts of the country.
High Temperatures: A slight decrease is expected compared to recent days.
And for those planning coastal activities:
Mediterranean Coast and Strait of Gibraltar: Slightly choppy waters.
North of Larache: Calm to slightly choppy waters.
* South: Slightly choppy to rough waters.
This varied weather forecast highlights the dynamic nature of Morocco’s climate. While some regions bask in the summer heat, others will experience a more volatile mix of sun, rain, and wind. Residents and visitors alike are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions.
