Morocco Braces for Heatwave: Soaring Temperatures Expected Across Most Regions
Morocco Braces for Another Scorcher: A Detailed Weather Forecast
Get ready for another warm one, Morocco! The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology predicts a slight rise in temperatures for Saturday, with particularly warm weather expected across several regions.
The southeastern, southernmost, and northeastern regions, as well as the southern Rif, will bear the brunt of the heat. These areas are no stranger to high temperatures, especially during the summer months. In recent years, Morocco, like many countries in North Africa, has experienced increasingly intense heatwaves, highlighting the growing impact of climate change on the region.
While the heat ramps up in some areas, other parts of the country will experience slightly milder conditions. The High and Middle Atlas mountains, as well as the southeastern and southern regions, can expect partially cloudy skies. Meanwhile, those along the northern and central coasts might wake up to low-lying clouds and patches of fog, offering a brief respite from the sun.
However, don’t pack away your sunglasses just yet! The coastal regions, southern areas, eastern parts of the country, and the Atlas Mountains will experience moderately strong winds, potentially kicking up dust and sand.
As the sun sets and the evening cools, temperatures will settle between a balmy 23-28 degrees Celsius (73-82 degrees Fahrenheit) in the southeast and south. The High and Middle Atlas mountains and the eastern highlands will experience cooler temperatures, ranging from 10-15 degrees Celsius (50-59 degrees Fahrenheit). The rest of the country can expect a comfortable range of 16-22 degrees Celsius (61-72 degrees Fahrenheit).
Turning our attention to the coast, the sea is expected to be relatively calm. The Mediterranean facade and the Strait of Gibraltar will see calm to slightly choppy waters. Meanwhile, the sea will be slightly choppy to rough north of Mehdia and between Tan-Tan and Boujdour. The remaining coastal areas will experience rough to very rough seas.
Whether you’re planning a beach day, a hike in the mountains, or simply running errands, be sure to stay hydrated and take precautions against the heat.
