Thunderstorms Expected in Parts of Morocco
Morocco Braces for Thunderstorms and Diverse Weather Conditions
Rabat, Morocco – The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN) has issued a weather advisory for Saturday, forecasting a mixed bag of weather conditions across the country. While some regions brace for thunderstorms, others will experience continued heat or foggy conditions.
The Atlas Mountains, known for their diverse microclimates, are expected to be particularly impacted. The Middle Atlas and Eastern regions are predicted to experience significant thunderstorms, potentially accompanied by hail in some areas. Meanwhile, the High Atlas Mountains, along with the southeastern region and eastern Rif, can anticipate scattered showers and localized thunder.
Residents of southern and southeastern Morocco will experience continued warm temperatures, a stark contrast to the cooler, wetter conditions elsewhere. This regional variation in weather patterns is typical of Morocco’s diverse geography, influenced by the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and the Sahara Desert.
Low cloud cover and foggy conditions are anticipated in the morning and nighttime hours across the northern and central plains. This atmospheric phenomenon will also extend to the northwest of the southern provinces and the northern eastern region. Coastal areas, particularly those bordering the Mediterranean and central coastlines, may experience localized fog.
Strong winds are expected to sweep across several regions, including the south of the eastern region, the High and Middle Atlas Mountains, the southeast, and the southern coasts. These gusts are a reminder of the powerful forces of nature that shape Morocco’s climate.
Temperature-wise, the Atlas Mountains will experience cooler temperatures, ranging from 13 to 17 degrees Celsius (55 to 63 degrees Fahrenheit). The southeastern and southern regions will see warmer temperatures between 19 and 24 degrees Celsius (66 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit). The rest of the country can expect moderate temperatures between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius (61 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit).
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable or increase slightly. The Mediterranean Sea will experience choppy to rough waters, while the Strait of Gibraltar will see calmer conditions. The Atlantic coast will experience choppy to rough waters, reflecting the dynamic nature of ocean currents.
The DMN continues to monitor weather patterns and provide timely updates to the public. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, residents and visitors are encouraged to consult the DMN website or local news sources.
