Morocco Weather Alert: Cold, Frost, and Fog Expected

Morocco Braces for Chilly Temperatures, Frost, and Fog
Morocco’s diverse landscapes are set to experience a mix of weather conditions in the coming days, with forecasts predicting a drop in temperatures, localized frost, and the formation of fog banks across several regions. The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) has issued advisories, urging residents to prepare for the changing conditions.
The DGM anticipates relatively cold weather across much of Morocco, with the potential for localized frost forming during the mornings and nights. Mountainous regions, including the High and Middle Atlas ranges, are expected to be particularly affected. The eastern and southeastern parts of the country, as well as inland plains, will also experience these chilly conditions. Temperatures in these high-altitude areas could plummet to between 0°C and -5°C (32°F and 23°F). The southeastern slopes, the Rif mountains, the eastern high plateaus, and the Anti-Atlas mountains are predicted to see temperatures between 0°C and 5°C (32°F and 41°F).
Adding to the mix, dense fog is expected to develop overnight and into the mornings. The northern parts of the eastern region, the Mediterranean coast, the central plains, and the northwestern areas of the southern provinces are most likely to be shrouded in fog. Visibility will be significantly reduced in these areas, potentially impacting travel.
While much of the country experiences colder temperatures, the southern provinces are anticipated to see a slight rise in maximum temperatures. Elsewhere, temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable. Coastal regions will experience varying sea conditions, ranging from calm to slightly choppy in the Mediterranean, and slightly choppy to rough along the Atlantic coast, particularly between Tarfaya and Laayoune.
Meanwhile, the northern regions of Tangier, Tetouan, Al Hoceima, Larache, Chefchaouen, and the western and western Rif regions can expect light rain or scattered showers. Furthermore, localized dust is anticipated in the southern parts of the country, potentially affecting air quality. Relatively strong gusts of wind are also predicted in the eastern region and along the southern coasts. Temperatures in areas adjacent to the Atlas Mountains are expected to range between 4°C and 7°C (39°F and 45°F), while the rest of the country will see temperatures between 8°C and 14°C (46°F and 57°F).
Staying Safe During Changing Weather:
Check the forecast: Stay updated on the latest weather predictions from the DGM and other reliable sources.
Dress warmly: Layer clothing to adapt to fluctuating temperatures, especially in areas prone to frost.
Drive cautiously: Fog and potential dust can significantly reduce visibility. Drive slowly, use fog lights, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.
Be prepared for power outages: Severe weather can sometimes disrupt power supplies. Have backup lighting and heating options available.
This varied weather forecast highlights the dynamic nature of Morocco’s climate. By staying informed and taking appropriate precautions, residents and visitors can navigate these changing conditions safely and comfortably.
