Morocco Weather Forecast: Clouds, Drizzle, and Dust Expected
Morocco Braces for a Mixed Bag of Weather: Cooler Temperatures, Coastal Drizzle, and Desert Dust
(November 8, 2024) – Morocco is set to experience a diverse range of weather conditions in the coming days, from cooler temperatures in the north to persistent warmth in the south, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN). Coastal regions can expect a touch of drizzle, while the desert interior will see some localized dust storms.
A refreshing dip in temperatures is forecast for the northern plains, offering a welcome respite from recent warmer weather. However, the Souss-Massa region and southern Morocco will continue to bask in relatively warm temperatures. This north-south temperature contrast is typical of Morocco’s varied climate, influenced by its diverse geography, ranging from coastal plains to towering mountain ranges and vast desert landscapes.
Along the central coast, dense low clouds are expected to gather, bringing with them a chance of very light, localized showers, primarily in the morning. Similar conditions are anticipated for the northern eastern region, the Mediterranean coast, and adjacent northern coastal areas, where patches of fog may also develop during the morning hours.
Further north, partly cloudy skies are predicted, while the rest of the country should experience generally clear conditions. However, localized dust storms are likely to kick up within the inland desert regions, a common occurrence in these arid areas, particularly during transitional seasons. These dust events can sometimes impact air quality and visibility, so travelers should be prepared.
Temperature Breakdown:
Nighttime temperatures will vary significantly across the country. Expect chilly lows of 7-13°C (45-55°F) in the Atlas Mountains, eastern slopes, the Rif region, and eastern parts of the country. Milder temperatures of 14-19°C (57-66°F) are anticipated for the remaining regions, while the central areas and inland desert regions will experience warmer lows of 20-25°C (68-77°F).
Daytime temperatures will see a decrease in the northern plains, while remaining relatively stable elsewhere. This cooling trend in the north aligns with the typical seasonal shift towards cooler autumn weather.
Coastal Waters:
Sea conditions are expected to be calm to slightly choppy along the Mediterranean coast. The Strait of Gibraltar will experience slightly choppy to rough seas, as will the waters between Tarfaya and Laayoune, although some calmer patches are possible. These varying sea conditions are influenced by wind patterns and ocean currents.
Staying Informed:
For the latest weather updates and detailed forecasts, it’s always recommended to consult the official website of the Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN). Staying informed about weather conditions is crucial for planning outdoor activities and ensuring safe travel throughout Morocco.
