Brace Yourselves: Thunderstorms Expected to Sweep Across Morocco

Rabat, Morocco -⁣ The Moroccan ⁣Directorate General of Meteorology (DMG) has issued an Orange level warning for strong, localized ‍thunderstorms expected to hit several ⁣regions of the country on Friday. Residents are advised to prepare for heavy⁣ downpours, gusty winds, and the possibility of hail.

The affected areas include the provinces and prefectures⁣ of Ifrane, ⁤Sefrou, Taza, Fes, Boulemane, Oujda-Angad, Jerada,‌ Taourirt. The DMG predicts these storms will begin in the⁢ early afternoon, around⁤ 1 PM local time,‍ and continue into the late evening, concluding around 11 PM.

Rainfall during this period is expected⁢ to be⁢ significant, with accumulations reaching between 15 and 30 millimeters. These intense downpours, combined ‍with strong winds, could lead ‍to ⁤localized flooding⁢ and difficult driving conditions.

Morocco, like many parts of the world, has experienced increasingly unpredictable weather patterns in recent years. The Intergovernmental Panel on⁢ Climate Change (IPCC) has identified the Mediterranean region as a climate change ‍”hotspot,” susceptible to more extreme weather events, including heavier precipitation and ‍stronger storms.

The DMG plays a crucial role in monitoring ⁢these changing weather patterns and issuing‍ timely warnings to help residents stay safe. It is essential for individuals in the⁤ affected areas to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions.
