Morocco Weather Alert: Strong Thunderstorms Expected in Several Regions
Brace Yourselves: Thunderstorms Expected to Sweep Across Morocco
Rabat, Morocco - The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DMG) has issued an Orange level warning for strong, localized thunderstorms expected to hit several regions of the country on Friday. Residents are advised to prepare for heavy downpours, gusty winds, and the possibility of hail.
The affected areas include the provinces and prefectures of Ifrane, Sefrou, Taza, Fes, Boulemane, Oujda-Angad, Jerada, Taourirt. The DMG predicts these storms will begin in the early afternoon, around 1 PM local time, and continue into the late evening, concluding around 11 PM.
Rainfall during this period is expected to be significant, with accumulations reaching between 15 and 30 millimeters. These intense downpours, combined with strong winds, could lead to localized flooding and difficult driving conditions.
Morocco, like many parts of the world, has experienced increasingly unpredictable weather patterns in recent years. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has identified the Mediterranean region as a climate change ”hotspot,” susceptible to more extreme weather events, including heavier precipitation and stronger storms.
The DMG plays a crucial role in monitoring these changing weather patterns and issuing timely warnings to help residents stay safe. It is essential for individuals in the affected areas to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions.
