Polisario Stalling Tactics: A Cover-Up for MINURSO?

Is the Polisario Front Trying to Hide the Truth in Western Sahara?
The recent report from the UN Secretary-General to the Security Council paints a concerning picture of escalating tensions in Western Sahara. While the report highlights numerous challenges, one detail stands out: the Polisario Front’s consistent delays in granting security clearance to the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). This obstruction raises a critical question: what is the Polisario Front trying to hide?
MINURSO, established in 1991, plays a crucial role in maintaining a ceasefire between Morocco and the Polisario Front in the disputed territory of Western Sahara. The mission’s mandate includes monitoring the ceasefire, clearing mines, and supporting the organization of a referendum on self-determination for the Sahrawi people. However, the Polisario Front’s actions directly impede MINURSO’s ability to fulfill its mandate effectively.
By delaying security clearances, the Polisario Front restricts MINURSO’s freedom of movement and limits its access to key areas. This lack of transparency raises serious concerns about potential human rights violations, military build-up, or other activities the Polisario Front might be trying to conceal.
