Toulouse-Saint Louis Rally Recognizes Moroccan Sahara, Uses Official Map
Toulouse-Saint Louis Air Rally Recognizes Moroccan Sovereignty
In a significant move reflecting the evolving geopolitical landscape, the organizers of the Toulouse-Saint Louis Air Rally have announced their decision to use maps that accurately depict Morocco’s internationally recognized borders. This decision follows the recent recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Western Sahara by Spain and France.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the rally, a testament to its enduring appeal and adventurous spirit. Taking place on September 21st, 2024, the rally will see 25 aircraft and 65 pilots embark on an exciting journey from Toulouse-Lasbordes Airport in France to Senegal. The route will take them over Spain, Morocco, and Mauritania, showcasing the beauty and diversity of these North African nations.
The rally holds a special significance this year as it coincides with the centenary of the iconic French song “La Ligne” by Jean Marmoz, a pioneering aviator who played a crucial role in establishing early air routes across Africa.
The first leg of the 20-stage rally will see the aircraft depart from Toulouse-Lasbordes between 10 am and 12 pm, heading towards Alicante, Spain. This sets the stage for an incredible adventure across challenging yet breathtaking landscapes, embodying the spirit of exploration and international camaraderie that the Toulouse-Saint Louis Air Rally represents.
