Akhannouch Represents King of Morocco at China-Africa Cooperation Summit
Morocco Strengthens Ties with Africa and China at FOCAC Summit
Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch arrived in Beijing on Wednesday, September 4th, to represent King Mohammed VI at the China-Africa Cooperation Forum (FOCAC) Summit. The summit, taking place from September 4th to 6th, marks the 24th anniversary of this vital forum for international collaboration.
Akhannouch was greeted upon arrival at Beijing International Airport by Li Yunze, China’s Minister of Finance. The Prime Minister is joined by a high-level delegation, including Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, and Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Investment, Convergence, and Evaluation of Public Policies.
This delegation underscores the importance Morocco places on its relationship with both China and fellow African nations. The presence of a Moroccan business delegation, led by Chakib Alj, President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises, at the eighth China-Africa Entrepreneurs Conference, further emphasizes the focus on economic partnership.
FOCAC: A Platform for South-South Cooperation
Established in October 2000, FOCAC has become a cornerstone of China-Africa relations. The forum fosters South-South cooperation based on principles of solidarity, mutual respect, and shared development. It has facilitated significant investment in Africa, notably with the creation of the $5 billion China-Africa Development Fund in 2006.
This year’s summit takes place against a backdrop of evolving geopolitical dynamics and growing global challenges. FOCAC provides a platform for China and African nations to strengthen their partnership, address shared concerns, and explore new avenues for collaboration in areas such as infrastructure development, trade, technology, and healthcare.
As a key player in both African and Arab contexts, Morocco’s participation in FOCAC is significant. The Kingdom’s strategic location, coupled with its commitment to sustainable development and regional stability, positions it as a valuable bridge between China and Africa.
