Meknes Celebrates Sports and Community at National Grassroots Sports Caravan
Meknes, Morocco – The tenth stop of the National Grassroots Sports Caravan brought a wave of energy and excitement to Meknes, captivating over 400 participants of all ages and backgrounds. Organized by the Royal Moroccan Federation for Sports for All, the caravan, which began its journey on July 15th and concludes on August 5th, travels across all 12 regions of Morocco, promoting the theme “Grassroots Sport: A Prerequisite for Building a Healthy Society.”
The Meknes event, coinciding with the silver jubilee of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne, was a vibrant celebration of sports and community spirit. The festivities kicked off with a flag-raising ceremony accompanied by the national anthem and a dove release, setting the stage for a day filled with diverse activities.
The program, organized in coordination with local authorities and the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, featured a wide array of sports, educational workshops, and entertainment. Participants enjoyed archery, women’s football, badminton, gymnastics, chess, table tennis, and ”maneuvering ball,” a unique and engaging sport. Traditional games and captivating martial arts demonstrations added to the festive atmosphere.
Ms. Nouzha Bidouane, President of the Royal Moroccan Federation for Sports for All, expressed her delight at the caravan’s success, highlighting the importance of sports in fostering a healthy society. She emphasized the overwhelming participation from youth, women, and children, demonstrating the unifying power of sports.
The event concluded with an awards ceremony, recognizing the participating associations and their contributions to the day’s success. Local authorities were also honored for their support in making the event possible.
The National Grassroots Sports Caravan continues its journey, heading next to Ksar El Kebir in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, before concluding in Rabat on August 5th.
