The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN) has issued a severe weather warning for several regions across the country, forecasting heavy rain and hailstorms from Thursday, September 19th to Friday, September 20th, 2024.
The red alert, the highest level of warning, highlights the potential for significant rainfall, with some areas expected to receive between 70 and 120 millimeters (2.75 to 4.72 inches). An orange alert, indicating a moderate risk, has also been issued for several other regions, including Tata, Zagora, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Errachidia, and Figuig. These areas are forecast to experience thunderstorms and hail, with rainfall amounts ranging from 30 to 60 millimeters (1.18 to 2.36 inches). The DMN predicts these storms will hit on Friday afternoon and persist until late Friday night.
