Thunderstorms and Hail Expected in These Regions of Morocco
Morocco Braces for a Weekend of Thunderstorms and Cooling Temperatures
Get ready for a change in the weather, Morocco! The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN) has issued a forecast predicting thunderstorms and a drop in temperatures across much of the country on Saturday.
The southeast, northeast of the Sahara, the Anti-Atlas mountains, and the south of the Oriental region can expect localized thunderstorms, with the possibility of hail. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also anticipated in the High and Middle Atlas mountains, their eastern slopes, and the north of the Oriental region.
Meanwhile, Tangier, the western Rif, and Loukkos regions might see scattered showers accompanied by occasional thunder. These showers could potentially reach the northern and central coasts by nightfall.
The DMN also warns of strong winds in the Oriental and Atlas regions, the north of the Sahara, and locally in the north and central regions.
Temperature Rollercoaster
While the coast enjoys pleasant temperatures, the mountainous regions will experience a noticeable dip. Expect lows between 13-18 degrees Celsius in the High Atlas and the eastern High Plateaus. The plains west of the Atlas Mountains, the Souss region, Moulouya Valley, and the northeastern Sahara will see lows between 22-28 degrees Celsius. The rest of the country can anticipate lows between 17-23 degrees Celsius.
However, don’t let the cooler mornings fool you! Daytime temperatures are expected to drop across most of Morocco.
Coastal Conditions
The Mediterranean coast, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the Atlantic coast between Casablanca and Cape Ghir are predicted to be calm to slightly choppy. The rest of the Atlantic coast will experience choppy to rough seas.
