Morocco Weather Forecast: Cold, Frost, and Scattered Showers This Sunday

Morocco Braces for Chilly Sunday with Frost, Scattered Showers, and Strong Winds
Get ready for a chilly Sunday in Morocco! The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) forecasts a mix of cold temperatures, frost, scattered showers, and strong winds across various regions. While some areas will see a slight warm-up, others should prepare for a drop in temperature.
A Cold Start and Frosty Nights:
Sunday morning and night are expected to be particularly cold, with frost and ice forming over the Atlas Mountains, its eastern slopes, the Rif region, and the eastern high plateaus. If you’re planning any activities in these areas, be sure to bundle up! Temperatures in these mountainous regions could plummet to between -3°C and 3°C (27°F and 37°F). The DGM advises caution for travelers, especially in areas prone to black ice.
Fog and Mist:
Fog and mist are anticipated in the morning and evening across the northern and central plains bordering the Atlantic Ocean, the phosphate and Meseta plateaus, and the eastern region. Visibility could be significantly reduced, impacting travel times. Drivers should exercise caution and use fog lights when necessary.
Scattered Showers and Local Thunderstorms:
While not widespread, scattered showers are expected in the eastern region, eastern Rif, and along the Mediterranean coast. Some of these showers may be accompanied by local thunderstorms. Tangier, Loukkos, Gharb, Saïss, western Rif, and the High Atlas might experience lingering morning drizzle. Always a good idea to have an umbrella handy!
Snowfall in the Mountains:
Snowfall is predicted over the peaks of the Middle Atlas, northern High Atlas, and the eastern high plateaus. This could create hazardous conditions for mountain travel. Check local road conditions and weather updates before venturing into these areas.
Sandstorms and Strong Winds:
Local sandstorms are possible in southern Morocco. Moderate to relatively strong winds are expected in the central plains along the Atlantic coast, the southern provinces, and the eastern region. These winds could exacerbate dry conditions and impact air quality.
Temperature Variations Across Morocco:
While the mountains experience freezing temperatures, other regions will see milder conditions. The Anti-Atlas, eastern region, inland areas west of the Atlas, and southeastern slopes can expect temperatures between 2°C and 9°C (36°F and 48°F). The rest of the country will experience temperatures between 9°C and 16°C (48°F and 61°F). Western regions are expected to see a rise in temperatures, while other areas will experience a slight dip.
Coastal Conditions:
The Mediterranean coast is forecast to be calm to slightly choppy. The Strait of Gibraltar and the area between Tan-Tan and Laayoune will experience slightly choppy to rough seas. The remaining coastal areas will see rough to very rough seas. Mariners and coastal residents should be aware of these conditions and take necessary precautions.
