Morocco Weather Forecast: Thunderstorms and Temperature Drops Expected Thursday
Morocco Braces for a Day of Varied Weather Conditions
Thursday, October 24, 2024 – The Moroccan Directorate General of Meteorology (DMN) forecasts a mixed bag of weather across the country for Thursday. While some regions can expect scattered thunderstorms, others will experience partly cloudy skies and a rise in temperatures.
The Atlas Mountains, known for their varied microclimates, are expected to experience localized thunderstorms. The Middle Atlas, Northern High Atlas, and eastern slopes are all predicted to receive some rainfall. These mountainous regions, often experiencing cooler temperatures than the rest of Morocco, are no stranger to sudden downpours, especially during the transitional seasons.
Meanwhile, the Phosphates and Oulmes plateaus will see partly cloudy skies with a chance of scattered showers and localized thunder. The Mediterranean coast can also anticipate a few drops of rain. Fog is expected to develop in the Moulouya valleys, the central coast, and the northwestern parts of the Saharan provinces. The interior of the Saharan provinces may experience some local dust scattering.
Strong winds are expected in the High Atlas Mountains, eastern slopes, and southeastern Morocco, particularly in areas experiencing thunderstorms. These gusts, while potentially disruptive, are a reminder of the dynamic weather patterns that characterize this North African nation.
Temperatures across Morocco will vary significantly. The Atlas Mountains, the Rif region, and the eastern part of the country will experience lows between 9-14°C (48-57°F). The Mediterranean coast and southeastern Morocco will see slightly warmer lows between 14-18°C (57-64°F). The rest of the country can expect lows between 18-23°C (64-73°F).
While temperatures are expected to drop in most parts of the country, the southeastern region will experience a rise in temperature. This variation highlights the diverse geographical features of Morocco, ranging from coastal plains to towering mountain ranges, each influencing local weather patterns.
Sea conditions will also vary. The Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Gibraltar, and most coastal areas will experience slight to moderate waves. However, the sea between Mehdia and Tan-Tan will be rough, a reminder of the powerful forces of nature that shape the Moroccan coastline.
