Morocco Braces for Thunderstorms and Hail
Get ready for a dynamic weather day in Morocco! The Directorate General of Meteorology predicts a Thursday filled with thunderstorms, potential hail, and strong winds across various regions.
The Atlas Mountains and their western slopes, along with the southeastern morocco-olympic-football-team-vs-spain-semifinal-preview/” title=”Moroccan Fans Pack Stadium for Historic Olympic Clash Against Spain (Video)”>parts of the country and the south of the eastern region, are expected to experience the brunt of these storms. While rain is often welcomed, it’s important to be prepared for the possibility of hail, locally known as “tberouri,” which can impact agriculture and daily life.
Meanwhile, the northeastern regions of the southern provinces might see partly cloudy skies with a slight chance of light rain. Coastal areas along the Atlantic, both north and south, could also experience a sprinkle or two.
Morning fog and lingering evening mist are anticipated over the Atlantic plains and the northwestern parts of the southern provinces.
Despite the active weather in some areas, other parts of Morocco will experience a typical summer day. Expect relatively hot temperatures in the northern and central inland plains, the Moulouya Valley, the southeast, and the interior of the southern provinces. However, local dust might reduce visibility in the south and southeast.
Strong winds are also on the menu for Thursday. The southeastern region, the Atlas Mountains, the southeast, and the southern coasts will likely experience particularly gusty conditions.
Here’s a temperature breakdown:
Overnight lows: Expect a chilly 12-19 degrees Celsius (54-66 degrees Fahrenheit) in the High and Middle Atlas Mountains and the Rif region. The southeasternmost areas and the northeast of the southern provinces will be milder, with lows between 24-30 degrees Celsius (75-86 degrees Fahrenheit). The rest of Morocco will fall somewhere in between, with lows of 17-23 degrees Celsius (63-73 degrees Fahrenheit).
Daytime highs: The northern and central plains, along with the north of the eastern region, will see rising temperatures as the day progresses.
And what about the sea?
The Mediterranean coast and the Strait of Gibraltar will experience calm to slightly choppy waters. However, between Cap Beddouza and Tarfaya, expect rough to very rough seas. The remaining coastal areas will see slightly choppy to rough conditions.
Stay tuned for updates from the Directorate General of Meteorology, and remember to take precautions if you find yourself under stormy skies.
