Morocco’s Master’s Degree Requirements Set for Major Overhaul
Morocco Boosts Master’s Programs with Increased Credit Requirements
In a move aimed at enhancing the rigor and quality of graduate education, Morocco’s Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, has announced a significant change to the country’s Master’s degree-regulations/” title=”Morocco Updates Master's Program Requirements for Upcoming Academic Year”>degree programs. Starting in the 2024-2025 academic year, the minimum credit requirement for a Master’s degree will increase from 24 to 28 units.
This decision, detailed in the recently published National Pedagogical Specifications for Master’s Programs, reflects a global trend towards strengthening graduate-level education. By increasing the credit requirement, Moroccan universities aim to provide students with a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of their chosen fields. This move is also expected to enhance the employability of graduates in an increasingly competitive job market.
While the new requirements will apply to all students enrolling in Master’s programs from the 2024-2025 academic year onwards, students currently enrolled in these programs will not be affected. This ensures a smooth transition and allows current students to complete their degrees under the existing framework.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Moroccan government to reform and modernize the country’s higher education system. By aligning its graduate programs with international standards, Morocco aims to attract more international students and researchers, fostering a more dynamic and globally connected academic environment.
