Sofiane Rahimi Crowned Top Scorer at Paris Olympics, Matching Olympic Record
Sofiane Rahimi Makes History as Top Scorer at Paris 2024 Olympics
Moroccan football star, Sofiane Rahimi, etched his name in Olympic history by becoming the top scorer at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. His impressive eight goals during the tournament equaled the record set by Argentina’s Carlos Tevez at the 2004 Athens Games.
Rahimi’s goal-scoring prowess was instrumental in Morocco’s journey throughout the tournament. He consistently found the back of the net, showcasing his clinical finishing and ability to perform on the biggest stage. His achievement is even more remarkable considering the high level of competition in the Olympic football tournament, which features some of the world’s most promising young talents.
The Moroccan forward’s eight goals put him two ahead of Spain’s Fermín López, who finished the tournament with six goals. Notably, López, a rising star in Barcelona’s ranks, scored a brace in the final against France, but it wasn’t enough to surpass Rahimi’s tally.
Rahimi’s accomplishment also sees him equal the record for most goals scored by an Arab player in a single Olympic football tournament. He shares this honor with Egyptian football legend, Mostafa Riyad, who achieved the feat at the 1964 Tokyo Games.
This remarkable achievement places Rahimi in the company of Olympic football legends and further solidifies his status as one of the most exciting young talents in African football. His performance in Paris is sure to be remembered for years to come and will undoubtedly inspire future generations of Moroccan footballers.
