The alert, issued on September 21, 2024, covers a large swathe of the country, including the provinces of Tata, Tinghir, Zagora, Figuig, Errachidia, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Assa-Zag, Aousserd, Smara, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Boujdour, Tiznit, and the provinces of Tata, Tinghir, Zagora, Figuig, Errachidia, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Assa-Zag, Aousserd, Smara, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, Boujdour, and Tiznit.
The storms are expected to hit between noon and 11 p.m. local time, bringing not only heavy rain but also the risk of hail and powerful wind gusts. These conditions can create hazardous driving conditions and increase the risk of flash floods, particularly in valleys and low-lying areas.
In response to the weather warning, public authorities are urging residents and travelers to exercise extreme caution. Motorists are advised to drive slowly and carefully, be aware of reduced visibility, and avoid driving through flooded roads. Residents are also advised to stay informed about weather updates and follow safety recommendations from local authorities.
Morocco, like many parts of the world, is experiencing an increase in extreme weather events. These events, often attributed to climate change, underscore the importance of preparedness and community resilience. By heeding weather warnings and taking appropriate precautions, individuals can help mitigate the risks associated with severe weather.
