Interior Ministry Probes Sensitive Files in Berrechid Administration
Scrutiny in Berrechid: Interior Ministry Inspectors Dive Deep into Sensitive Municipal Files
Berrechid, Morocco – A team of three inspectors from the Ministry of Interior’s General Inspectorate of Central Administration have launched a comprehensive investigation into the management of the Berrechid municipality. Beginning on September 23rd, the investigation is taking a fine-toothed comb to municipal records spanning from 2017 to 2023, covering both the previous and current administrations.
The investigation is zeroing in on several key areas, with a particular focus on urban planning files. One case drawing significant attention is the “Carrefour” shopping center project, specifically the process by which building permits were granted. Inspectors are meticulously reviewing documents and procedures to ensure transparency and adherence to regulations.
This investigation comes at a time when Morocco, like many nations, is grappling with concerns about corruption and government accountability. Transparency International’s 2022 Corruption Perceptions Index ranked Morocco 72nd out of 180 countries, highlighting the ongoing need for strengthened anti-corruption efforts.
The Ministry of Interior’s proactive approach in Berrechid sends a strong message about its commitment to good governance and responsible urban development. The outcome of this investigation is being closely watched by citizens and stakeholders alike, as it could have significant implications for future municipal projects and governance practices. : ‘7.0’
