Tetouan and Salé A Briq Dominate Morocco’s Throne Cup Karate Championships
Rabat, Morocco – The Moroccan capital recently witnessed a thrilling display of athleticism and sportsmanship at the 2023/2024 Throne Cup Karate Championships. Held at the prestigious Ibn Yacine Sports Hall, the event was organized by the Royal Moroccan Karate and Associated Styles Federation (FRMKDA) to commemorate the 25th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne.
The men’s contact karate competition saw the Tetouan League emerge victorious, showcasing their dominance in the discipline. Meanwhile, the women’s title went to the formidable team from Salé A Briq, solidifying their position as a force to be reckoned with in Moroccan karate.
The tournament also featured traditional karate, where the North League team clinched the coveted title. This year’s Throne Cup was marked by a high level of competition, reflecting the growing popularity and development of karate in Morocco.
The awards ceremony was a grand affair, graced by prominent figures including Mr. Mohamed Mouktabil, President of the FRMKDA; Mr. Abdelaziz El Drouich, President of the Rabat Prefecture Council; and Mr. Abdel Ilah El Bouzidi, President of the Agdal-Riyadh District Council. They were joined by members of the FRMKDA Executive Board, adding to the prestige of the event.
Ms. Bouchra Lakhal, Secretary General of the FRMKDA, expressed her delight at the successful organization of the tournament, highlighting its role in strengthening the position of Moroccan karate on the national, continental, and global stage. She praised the exceptional performance of the Moroccan athletes, who continue to make their mark in the world of karate.
Ms. Lakhal also acknowledged the significant contributions of Mr. Mouktabil and the entire Moroccan karate community in ensuring the success of the event. The Throne Cup, coinciding with the momentous occasion of King Mohammed VI’s 25th anniversary, served as a testament to the thriving spirit of sportsmanship and national pride in Morocco.
