Morocco Braces for Chilly Wednesday: Fog, Wind, and Coastal Rough Seas
Morocco Weather Forecast: December 4, 2024
Get ready for a brisk Wednesday across Morocco! The Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) predicts a mix of chilly temperatures, foggy conditions, strong winds, and rough seas. While some areas will experience a relatively mild day, others should prepare for a more intense weather experience.
Mountain Chill and Lowland Fog:
A cool start is expected in the mountainous regions, with relatively cold temperatures persisting throughout the morning and into the night across the Atlas Mountains, the Rif, and the eastern High Plateaus. Meanwhile, dense fog is anticipated to blanket the northern and central plains, Saïss, the phosphate and Massa plateaus, the southern Rif, and the northeast during the morning hours. This could impact visibility for commuters and travelers in these areas. Remember to drive cautiously and allow extra time for your journey if you’re in a fog-prone area.
Rain Clouds Gather, Winds Pick Up:
As the day progresses, low-hanging clouds carrying light rain are forecast for the northeast of the country during the night. Higher altitude clouds will drift over central and southern Morocco. Strong, and in some places locally powerful, winds are expected in the eastern region, as well as along the central and southern coasts. These winds could be accompanied by scattered sandstorms in the eastern region and southern provinces. Be mindful of potential flight delays or disruptions to outdoor activities due to high winds.
Temperature Fluctuations Across the Country:
Temperatures will vary significantly across Morocco. Expect lows ranging from a chilly 1°C to 6°C (34°F – 43°F) in the Atlas Mountains, 4°C to 8°C (39°F – 46°F) in the Rif and eastern High Plateaus, and a milder 14°C to 17°C (57°F – 63°F) in the southern provinces, Souss region, and central Atlantic coast. The rest of the country will see lows between 11°C and 14°C (52°F – 57°F). Daytime temperatures are predicted to drop slightly in the northern half of the kingdom.
Rough Seas Ahead:
Coastal areas will experience turbulent seas. The Mediterranean Sea is expected to be choppy to rough, with rough to very rough conditions between Saïdia and Al Hoceima. The Strait of Gibraltar will see calmer waters, ranging from calm to slightly choppy. Along the Atlantic coast, conditions will be choppy to rough, with rough to very rough seas anticipated between Cape Sim and Agadir in the afternoon. These conditions could pose challenges for maritime activities. Check local advisories before venturing out on the water.
